PrintGreen have posted a lot of recycling activities, upcycles, and projects made from used materials, created by people with creative minds that see only beauty from  wasted materials. Recently I've posted about how to make literally green keyboard out of used ones, by using those old computer keyboards to grow green decorative sprouts.

Now allow me to give another awesome project made by none other than, Franco Recchia, Commercial Director of TT Tecnosistemi SPA Prato. With the desire to see what's inside the central processing unit of a computer, the components that made up the computer hardware, he then dissected old computer peripherals and came up with a wonderful piece of art the "Microchip Cities".

According to the press release from a recent installation, “Recchia seeks in his sculptures to bring dignity to the process of modern creation, to highlight how every product produced by human hands contains talent, imagination and great beauty, and ultimately stems from the vast reservoir of human experience of which we are all a part. His sculptures are indeed a testament to what is beautiful, elegant and functional in the modern object, and are a tribute to the aptitude and passion that are our inheritance.

Skillfully crafted art material, Franco's creation were truly amazing. From worn out pieces of computer hardware components, he breathes new life to each pieces and created a detailed piece of art. Just like Franco, you can also have your own spot and exhibit, by unleashing the creative talent within you. Be detailed, mindful and think green ideas, create art works and masterpiece that people will adore. Think of possible materials that you can use, aside from computer hardware components, you can also use printer supply equipments, like eco friendly toner cartridges, these print cartridges can give you enough of the ideas that you can use to create your own line of eye catching creations made from remanufactured toner cartridges and other printer supplies.

Eco Friendly Office
Incorporating environmental awareness into your work is a good practice, since many of us are now getting conscious and starting to exert some good effort on becoming responsible for the environment. Recycling before was somehow an alien term to a lot of people, but now it became a common term to most of us who practice and promote it. So if you want to learn on how to associate environmental awareness into your work, then you need to learned the pattern.

There are terms which are not very common and literally not common to most of us, and the industry has a lot of it. The tag "made of recycled materials" is very common and easily understood, but how about the other terms which the industry has been putting to their products which only they can understand. It's important for you to be familiar with these terms so as not be fooled by fraud products and other third party manufacturer. Let's say for example, you want to purchase printer paper, you might encounter some paper products that has a description of "virgin materials", it means that the paper you were about to buy is made from original source and not recycled.

Consider buying alternatives from which you can save a lot of money. There's a lot of alternatives products for you to choose from, and that are now available. Still don't take for granted the durability and quality of what you purchase, it may be cost effective and budget friendly but is the quality worth enough. Don't take let the price fool you, it may cheaper but if it's compromising the products quality, then forget about it.

When you're printing, try to diminish the amount of work that you need to print. Some are just printing whatever they wanted and are not concern about how much money they are wasting from those not so important files they print. If you can't help your self from printing all the stuffs you want, then use eco friendly toner cartridges and ink cartridges for your printer equipment. They are less expensive and performs well enough when compared to original print cartridges, but be sure from where you would purchase these printer supplies. Remanufactured toner cartridges and ink cartridges are made of recycled empty and used print cartridges, returned by most consumers.

Conserve as much as you could, preserve whatever is available that can be preserve. Millions of trees are being cut each year just to provide the sustainability of the market consumers demand for paper materials. Also, hundreds of our natural resources that are none renewable are getting more and more scarce, which not all of us are aware of this issue. If you can't do recycling then at least promote it, value it, purchase it, and practice it as well.

Printer equipments are typically cheaper to purchase nowadays, and consumers are aware of this idea that with the small amount they saved from purchasing a new printer, it can be doubled once they started to purchase replacement cartridges. Selling their equipment products for a very low price which we're not even sure if they do get profit from it, their printer consumable products are doing the job of getting back their profit.

It's typically how this industry is set up, to bargain cheap printers to the market, and vend expensive printer consumables like toner cartridges and ink cartridges. Printer manufacturer's profit margin increases, and this is good for them, but definitely not for the environment. Producing tons of petroleum-based inks, which can harm our natural environment, and manufacturing cartridges that are mainly made of plastic. Plastic materials are non biodegradable, nor can be decompose.

We can't blame the consumers from taking the risk of refilling their print cartridges just to save money. Some are now purchasing remanufactured toner cartridges and ink cartridges, which can be assumed as an alternative to original cartridges, since these are all made of original cartridges as well, it's just that they are recycled. Unless they can make eco friendly toner cartridges and ink cartridges, then at least lower the cost of their printer consumables. Granted that cartridges can now be refilled, the chance of getting quality printouts is really small.

It was really a good thing, that soy-based inks, inks that comes from grape seeds and other natural resources are now commonly available, instead of using petroleum-based inks which can bring potential risk to the environment. Consumers would definitely prefer cheaper products, but they don't want to compromise the quality. If printer manufacturers can charge less to their print cartridges, then it would be favorable for the consumers, but more likely it wouldn't happen.

The consumers last resort, is to take the risk of trying alternative printer consumables that would fit their budget and quality demand. Unless the printing industry creates their move to develop a solution to this problem, actually there are a lot of ideas that can be considered, unfortunately all of those great ideas remain as just ideas and never been applied.

Have you tried working on a project that looks totally weird but unique at the same time? Everyone now owns either a personal computer, or even laptops, notebooks, android phones, smart phones, tablets and ipads. Since the growth of technology never stop, the old times goodies which we've been using from such a long time are now left behind. Like for example, high towering and heavy CPU's are now replace by small and sleek system units which are more convenient and requires less space. Even CRT monitors and desktops are now replace by LCD screen monitors, which still are much convenient to most users. What happens to these old units are then left behind, locked in the storage rooms until they worn out, or sell it as a junk. People wouldn't have the idea of recycling them or save them for possible future use. But PrintGreen will never run out of good green ideas on how to create a recycled material out of your old junks.

For sure some of you would have bought keyboards for your desktop PC's before, and still have those in your storage rooms. Instead of letting them worn out there for years, why not create a unique and weird recycling project out of it. It's literally green cause you're going to do planting. Now to begin get those old keyboards and let's get started. First prepare the materials that you'll be needing for this project.
  • Old Computer Keyboard
  • Old Papers
  • Soil (use for planting)
  • Seeds
To begin, tinker the keyboard by opening it and removing the top cover of your keyboard, you'll be needing a screw driver to do this. Once the top cover is remove, get those papers and thorn them into pieces and place them in between the keys, then flat it, if you get the picture right, the paper will serve as the layer to support the soil. Once your done laying the papers, get the soil and pour it on top of the paper layer. Make sure that the soil is fine and not crumbled, also make sure that the soil you use is appropriate for planting. Once your done covering the paper with the enough soil, of course don't put too much soil, make sure the you can still put back the top cover. Now sprinkle the seeds that you want to grow from your green keyboard, use seeds that produce small sprouts. Then put back the top cover of your keyboard, and water the soil in  a very control manner, not too much and not less. Now all you need to do is wait until the seeds germinate and produce sprouts in between the keys.

This is great way of recycling your old computer keyboards and creating a lovely green ornament. Since people are now using personal computers less, then you'll have a lot of ideas to think of on how you can recycle, and be more green and eco friendly. Try using eco friendly toner cartridges for your printer, and make a more environment friendly practice of printing in your home, by purchasing recycled print cartridges or commonly called as remanufactured toner cartridges. Try to create your own idea of recycling and let the world know about your creative talent.
